On-board services

Comfort is our watchword; all ICE trains offer a wide choice of seats – window, aisle, table, face-to-face, silent zones, enhanced areas for mobile phone reception, children’s compartment etc., which can be reserved before departure (reservation is not always necessary).

In both 1st and 2nd class coaches you will find ultra comfortable reclining seats, which are equipped with folding tables, arm rests, power sockets and an audio system featuring entertainment programs. ICE trains are fully air-conditioned and have an extremely low noise level. Our friendly on-board service crew will gladly help you with any questions or requests.

You can learn about the available services and connections in various languages (including English) from the at-seat information leaflet, "Ihr Reiseplan", and from the crew.

In our Bordbistros and/or Bordrestaurants you can choose from various menus to suit any taste including à la carte main dishes, snacks and a wide selection of hot and cold beverages. In 1st class coaches a selection of beverages and meals can be served at your seat upon request.

Services in stations

Whether you are departing, arriving or connecting at a station within Germany, a wide selection of services will be at your disposal.

“ServicePoint” is the focal point of around 90 main stations. Around the clock multilingual information is available on local and long-distance train timetables, public transport, accommodation and tourist highlights. If you require dedicated services such as ticket-booking or rebooking, we feature special Railteam-Points within DB’s “Travel Centres”.

Larger stations are equipped with special parking facilities for DB customers, luggage carts, porter services and luggage storage for your belongings. Most stations offer a huge variety of local and international tastes in their food-courts, plus a broad selection of different shops including travel agencies, car rentals and pharmacies.

For 1st class passengers and frequent traveller card holders we feature fourteen lounges at the most popular connection stations, where you can relax, have a snack and wait for your train in a pleasant atmosphere.

Our lounges are open between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Practical information

DB tickets are on sale via the internet, vending machines, travel bureaus, call centres, our in station Travel Centres and on board our trains (at a surcharge). In most cases all major credit cards, debit cards and cash are accepted. DB operates an “open” system, meaning that you can take any train without a seat-reservation. Particularly during peak-hours trains can be very heavily booked, so reserve in advance to be sure to get the seat you want.

If you are travelling on a long-distance train, displays on the platforms will indicate the position of each individual coach (by numbers) on a platform section. For this reason platforms are divided into sections A to E. Your reservation highlights your coach and seat number so you can locate it easily.
